Images from Wargames World 1 and 2, and Wargames Illustrated 11 to 24

More images from the collections of Peter Gilder, for your delectation and admiration.
Peter Gilder's, second great love, the Campaigns against the Mahdi, which are now very topical again, with the re release of his rules. Attributed to Peter Gilder and Dave Thomas.

Whats not to love with this image, a British square under extreme pressure.

Still my favourite images from the Peter Gilder collections, his Italian Wars armies.
Gendarmes painted by Dave Conyers for the Wargames Holiday Centre.
More beautiful Napoleonics, painted in the main by the great Doug Mason.

ACW regiments attributed to the great man himself, Peter Gilder.

  1. Thanks Robbie for these beautiful reminders. It all seemed so out of reach to the ordinary wargamer in those days!

    1. Chris,
Whenever I paw over my old magazines, I am still in awe of how good Peter Gilders games really were. I know some were staged for the camera, but the quality was tremendous.

  3. Great to see all those images again Robbie, especially those wonderful Sudan games. Similar to Dave, these are what inspired me to wargame this wonderful and colourful period!

    1. Gilder had an eye for the dramatic. A great way to inspire lesser mortals.
